Tunnel vision!

Tunnel vision is perhaps one of the most vicious pitfalls known to mankind. It’s always lurking and the signals can be very easily missed. Think of it as an Engineer working on a high priority incident with complete focus, enthusiasm, passion and drive. In those cases the Engineer is subconsciously at risk of closing off himself or herself from fellow colleagues or other stakeholders. And if that’s the case the lack off communication will definitely result in a longer Mean Time To Repair than needed.

But tunnel vision also occurs within a single department or organizations as a whole when subconsciously a ‘collective mindset’ is created. In these cases statements like “great minds think alike” are commonly heard but they are not addressed accordingly or in timely matter. Sounds familiar? Then maybe it’s time to let someone from the outside have a look inside, you’ll be amazed about the positive effects which an independent and fresh point of view has to offer.

Based on the experience I have gained as an engineer, project manager and team manager, I’m able to maintain objectivity and act accordingly. Recognizing patterns and addressing them is what enables me to act as a C-level sparring partner, team manager and coach.
